Durham v Derbyshire T20

It would be churlish to say that 20:20 cricket is only there to draw much needed crowds into a sport that seems to be at its best when Blowers is talking about cranes or pigeons on TMS (you may need to Google that reference!). However, for all there is great joy in the long format of the game 20:20 has a place in the overall package, albeit that 4s and 6s become de rigueur, rather than something that might come with a mis-pitched ball after 24 dot balls. That said the County clubs adopt it warmly, giving themselves attractive names Durham Jets v Derbyshire Falcons in this case, getting someone to dress up as a mascot (Chester the lion), funny hair hats, cricket bat banger sticks and the opportunity at the end of the match for signings and photos with the players on the pitch.

This particular match saw Durham needing to win to qualify for the Quarter Finals, so long as Lancashire won their match and eventually all turned in Durham’s favour, with Lancashire winning and Durham turning in an impressive total of 193, whilst a spirited Derbyshire managed a competitive 180 and for the loss on Neil Broom in the final over might have come even closer to that total.
